Live Blogging the Super Bowl (join me!)
I'm covering the Taylor Swift beat because I am who I am
No big post this week because it’s the Super Bowl! Instead of finishing up a newsletter tonight, I’ll be joining the over 115 million viewers expected to watch Super Bowl 58 — or, what I’m really here for: The Usher concert, funny commercials filled with celebrities, and the season finale of the Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce “romance.” [And also, I guess, a football game that I just can’t make myself feel excited about. Sorry, still sour that the Detroit Lions didn’t make it!]
But I won’t JUST be stuffing my face with cheese dip! This year, as part of The Athletic team [still not used to saying that!], I’m working during the game, contributing to The Athletic’s Super Bowl “Spectacle” Live Blog.
Please join me there! We have one live blog focused on the sports, and one focused on “the spectacle” — and y’all know me enough to know which one I care about!
I’m covering the Taylor Swift beat [despite the fact it’s starting to feel like the Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce Show is heading for its own version of the “Season 8 of The Office” exhaustion/trash spiral]. So yes, I will be whiteboarding [writing on a piece of printer paper] every time she is shown on the CBS broadcast and writing updates about what she’s wearing, the who’s-who of who’s with her in the box, what words the lip-readers think she’s saying, and whatever other silliness goes on. For my job!
It is my solemn duty to keep you in the know, and I shall not fail you. 🫡
This week, I also wrote and contributed to several pieces about the things you can turn into a party prop competition [or, perhaps, a drinking game?]:
My favorite Taylor Swift “party props” (Meaning things like guessing who she’ll sit by, which of her songs Tony Romo will reference first, etc.)
My favorite party props for Usher’s halftime show (What song will he perform first? Will Alicia Keys or Justin Bieber show up? etc.)
How long will Reba McEntire’s national anthem be? (Over or under 90.5 seconds?)
A brief history of indoor Super Bowls (Does a dome make a difference in the outcome?)
Super Bowl Betting Guide (Everything is here.)
A PRINTABLE Party Prop sheet for your Super Bowl party! (You can also enter your answers online and compete with all of our readers and staff!)

To the football bros in the comments on the articles above, [Not here! My comments section here is a love fest! Thank you!] who think I am ruining the purity of the sport with my womanish gossip, I say:
I’ve always loved the Super Bowl BECAUSE OF the spectacle of it all. It’s the one time every year that the Venn Diagram of football and pop culture completely overlap. To a girl from South Louisiana who loves football and spectacle equally: A blessing from the Lord!
Anyways, look out for me on the Live Blog! See you there starting at 4:30 Eastern. :)
