So much love to you all as you continue to navigate the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of this journey with your dear mother (who I so love!).
Ideas for her:
Shows:
The Good Place
Abbott Elementary
Schitt's Creek
Podcasts:
Disappearing Spoon
Kind World
The History Chicks (I feel like your mom would really enjoy Susan and Beckett)
Thank you for being open with your grief and how you process. It's so beneficial to see that not everyone processes everything the same way and we're all just trying our best.
I can never stop laughing when watching anything from Task Master. They have some full seasons up but a lot of best of an they're just the best. I think she'd enjoy them.
Ok, don’t judge me, but my sisters and I have been watching When Calls the Heart on Hallmark ever since it started and there’s like a million seasons. It’s easy to watch and definitely wholesome lol. It is not at all good television but good for times when you don’t have the physical or mental energy for anything heavy.
Oh I am absolutely adding this to the list. Mom and Dad have gone through big Hallmark Holiday movie phases. Mom loves how it's a break from her life as a therapist, and in her first cancer treatment in 2020 they loved the distraction!
I also loved "Asteroid City," but I'm a bit of a Wes Anderson fan (CIS male, STEM advanced degree) I picked up on the grief theme, but the love stories in there are also key to the film's beauty.
I'd love to offer suggestions for your mother too, but I can't quite sort the clearly differing but separate categories very well. I've enjoyed most of the ones listed. Then again, maybe "Victoria," the newish miniseries? On Amazon Prime, maybe?
Also, best wishes in the weeks ahead. That's a lot.
Ken, thank you so much for commenting and sharing!
Victoria is an EXCELLENT suggestion. Putting that on the list immediately.
I think the things they aren't enjoying right now are either things that are a little too "millennial" and therefore focused on the sex lives of the characters (New Girl, Shrinking) or just things that are really dark and heavy. Your suggestion is great.
Jesmyn Ward said she reads romance novels when she’s working on her tough novels- which gave me the permission to as well! Beach reads, chic lit, romcoms- I love them when life is tough. Jasmine Guilroy has wonderful ones, and so does Emily Henry. Wonderful escapism, like brain candy !

Definitely making the list lol
RYENN!! This is so good, THANK YOU!!! Adding these to the lists.
Also, thanks for your encouraging words about how we all process differently. It can feel hard to have grace on oneself for that.
Beautiful. 🥹❤️

Fantastic idea!! Putting these all on the list, thank you so much. I love the acknowledgement that sometimes this is exactly what we need.
