My main Simone anecdote is that I had this deluded sense that I already knew her lol. My mom said of seeing the video: "I felt like you were talking to our oldest friend!" I was so focused on work at the time (holding the mic correctly, reacting with my face not my voice, remembering the questions I wanted to ask, etc.) that it only really sunk in later that I had spoken to her.
It struck me just how media-trained and experienced she is. I interviewed several athletes who were extremely nervous or uncomfortable with the camera and not sure what to say. She and her husband know what they're doing and I really respect that, even if it means you're getting a canned answer. (Still got some really lovely sincere stuff from her about foster care and her work now, though that wasn't what ended up in the final cut lol.)
I finally finished Hacks this week and WOW. Season 2 and 3 were my favorites; I thought 4 took a while to really get going, but then once it was going, it was GOING. One of my favorite comedies of all time, just absolutely brilliant, warm yet serrated, hilarious and thoughtful. Have you finished yet? Shall we discuss that ending?
Last of Us: (no spoilers) You used the phrase “the engine of the show” and that is EXACTLY the phrase I needed to explain why I was so upset about that episode. You NAILED it.
Need Hacks thoughts. And Simone anecdotes 😇

“A horse called Sovereignty won the Kentucky Derby over Journalism, which is an End Times indicator for certain.” 🤣🤣
