Don’t Look Up: Disagree. I just felt like it was trying SO hard to be *kewl* and *edgy* and *unexpected*. I wanted to give up halfway through but at that point I just thought needed to finish it. Kind of wish I’d just stopped half way through. Jonah Hill was by far the best part of the movie, though.

Just added Sweet Bobby to my list for next weekend’s road-trip (without the older kids) 💃🏽 True crime podcast are life.

Love this perspective! I am guessing the critics agree with you. We threw it on right after watching Miley and Pete's New Year's Eve show and I fell asleep halfway through and finished it the next day -- all to say, it was an extremely low-stakes viewing experience that I didn't take seriously.

As a satire, it doesn't work and comes off really snobby and ineffective. But as a farce/dumb romp for some fun actors, it worked for me.

Glad you mentioned this, because I bet a lot of people will agree with you! (Plus the critics)

I love ambiguous movie endings so I'm gonna need to check that Olivia and Maggie shit out STAT. I appreciate you going against the grain with your Don't Look Up review. It was hilarious and also felt like way too heavy handed with its metaphors. But also I thought it was about COVID but everyone is saying it's about climate change. So idk.

p.s. I don't need a reminder to skip to my favorite section because I read every word and no one should be skipping!!!

Ooh if you watch The Lost Daughter you must tell me all your thoughts! I neglected to mention this in the post, but another perk of the movie is I have never seen Dakota Johnson look SO beautiful as she does in this movie??

Lol about Don't Look Up! I thought it was about Covid, too! Then I remembered climate change was a thing so I thought Ah they just wanted to punch all the issues right in the face, got it. I went into the movie already knowing it would be heavy-handed and thinking it would be the worst movie ever, so I was like "high fives all around for a great time!" when I finished. hahaha.

Ok, but you know you have to see Licorice Pizza. It’s delightful.

My winter joy is the current Masterpiece Theater double feature on Sunday nights. Yes, Succession and Curb have been replaced by Jules Verne and James Herriot.

Okay well if you liked it, I'm all in! Your taste has never been off for me !

Someone else was just telling me about the James Herriot show -- a new season starting soon or already? I can't imagine those hilarious books translating to a show (the humor part), but maybe I'll have to give it a try. What's the Jules Verne one??? (I know I could just google but want to hear your thoughts.)

Yeah, season 2 of All Creatures Great and Small just started (although of course it’s already aired in Britain.) I never read the books! But the show is pretty funny. The Jules Verne one is Around the World in 80 Days. It’s more action-packed than the typical Masterpiece show, and it stars David Tennent! I abbreviate both shows ACGAS and ATWIED because the titles are waaaay too long.

So many things to think on - but I must share, for my fellow scaredy cats, that Yellowjackets is worth the watch, EVEN IF you have to turn on every light in your apartment and fast forward or mute through some parts!

This is a fantastic addition/recommendation!!

I really agree that it's worth powering through, but wasn't sure if I could say it since I watch a lot of scary stuff 😅

Oh yes!! I was about to give up, but was very proud of myself for finding the way forward - the sharp characterizations and complex plot lines are worth it. (I should say that sometimes I have to read the Wikipedia plots to catch what I missed, lol. For some reason I couldn’t handle that “lady in the tree” subplot??!)
