it was the great tragedy of my life when I had COVID last week and couldn't go to see Maverick on opening night. I'm looking forward to hitting up the IMAX on Friday (my day off) this week. I think your categorizations are spot on!! I read and enjoyed Crawdads but also I think that summary is gross and doesn't capture it well. The movie looks kinda stupid so....I mean I'm still gonna watch because I have AMC A-List (thank u queen nicole) and Anna loves Taylor Swift.
TAIKA THOR SUPREMACY (and I'm 100% here for Natalie-Thor, she is an icon and I'm pumped for the three-way chemistry of Thor/Jane/Valkyrie) --- also I'm pretty sure you already posted about OFMD before but UGH another great Taika instant classic that I love.
Only one I don't think I'll see on your list is NOPE because....I don't like horror or thriller movies, too scary for me. I'm going to see (and probably enjoy) Phantom of the Open. It's opening more at the end of summer, but I'm also excited for Three Thousand Years of Longing.
Ahhhh this is great! First of all, I have NEVER heard of either of the last two movies you mention! This is a thrill to have new trailers to look up. I just looked up Phantom of the Open and it's already showing at some theaters here !
I AM excited about the Thor/Jane/Valkyrie triangle (and whoever blue-haired person is in the trailer??) and also the easy-breezy, fun, saturated queerness of Taika's stuff is part of what makes it so magical! We LOVED OFMD so much.
I'm gonna need everyone to come back and leave reviews on Crawdads when it's finally out haha.
THANK YOU FOR SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER ABOUT CRAWDADS. Seriously, this was the worst book I've read in a long time. It TOTALLY feels like either a man or a 14 year old girl wrote this story. It's terrible. The prose is bad. The plot is predictable (from someone who can never. guess. any.plot). IT'S GODAWFUL. Whew, thanks for creating a safe space for me to say that.
Also while I'm shitting on things can I just say every action movie since John Wick just wants to BE John Wick. And also that I am totally here for whatever RG wants to do and will probably see this movie more than once lol.

The crazy thing is how well John Wick WORKS. Like, it just seems like it SHOULDN'T work? Because it's also kind of what lots of action movies wanted to be before. But they got the ingredients just right with John Wick (KEANU) and it's so freaking good. Like that balance of not taking itself (the plot, the characters) seriously and yet being dead serious when it comes to the action, the choreography, the visuals, the details?? I’m also really excited for Maverick, Don’t Worry Darling and Jurassic Dinosaur (or whatever this one is called)!! I think the Buzz Lightyear movie is supposed to be the show that the toy was from in the movie. Like picture Andy watching Saturday morning cartoons and that would have been on.
Ahhhhhhhhh, that makes sense about Buzz Lightyear. It still doesn't make me feel like the movie will have stakes. Like...it's too many fictions fiction. But at least it's logical now. lol
