My earliest memory of Princess Di is the commemorative Beanie Baby coming out at the height of the Beanie Baby craze (which if I remember correctly was not too long after she died). Weird to remember her death by a cultural artifact / toy created in response to it.
Every time I see a clip from SNL lately it's been borderline offensive and/or unfunny so I always appreciate you pointing out the ones you did like as I often like them too!
I had that Beanie Baby and now I can't believe we took the damn tag off the thing. Although I suppose I do not wish to gain from the capitalist response to her memory.... oops.
SNL is rough these days! (Although, take: it always was, we just rehash the best skits and then misremember that they all were good?) I hope I am providing a public service!
Yes. 😬 It definitely has spoilers in the sense of talking about what decisions they made in telling the story. But I guess...it's also hard to spoil a story that you know the ending of?
I vividly remember sitting in my great aunt and uncle's living room on Lookout Mountain. A bunch of cousins were in town for Labor Day weekend, and we were having a big meal together. We kids had the TV on, watching something I can't remember, and then the "ABC News Breaking News" flashed across the screen right as my younger cousin was turning the TV off. "Julie!" I shouted, "Turn the TV back on!" She did, and we saw what had happened and reported it to our parents, aunts, uncles, who were definitely more devastated than I was. I felt more shocked than sad. I'll never forget that day, though!
WOAH! What a vivid memory of that day -- and with the whole family. That must've been wild processing it with a big group; kind of helped to sketch what a massive event it was. So insanely shocking, even this year I've been shocked by it again realizing she was only 36, which is basically my current age (okay, one year older).

Does your podcast have spoilers?? I’m trying to catch up on season 5 right now so I can start season 6 and finish it with you!!

Soon as The Smiths played on Fassbender’s antique headphones, I thought “where am i? In some bro’s college dorm room?” lol
😂😂 You nailed it.
